Show Navigation Bar Option on the LMS

Jun 21, 2023

Our LMS vendor recently made a change to their software that is causing my office some issue.  I can't name the vendor, but prior to this change the browser window that displayed the course pages contained a menu bar with a 'Return to LMS' option for the learner that would close the course file and take them back to the page in the LMS contain their learning plan.

Some of this vendor's other user didn't like that option, so in their most recent update they changed its display setting from automatic to optional.  This is causing my office a problem now because when we moved to this LMS about 6-mon ago we removed the 'Exit' buttons from our course files that performed that function.

The vendor is telling us that most authoring software contains an option to display said navigation bar, but I've never seen it and can't seem to find anything like that within Storyline.

So, the question is: Is there anyone who is familiar with what I'm talking about who can tell me where this alleged setting is?  I and my colleagues would be eternally grateful!

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Hi Jay,

Great question! I understand you are looking for an option to display a 'Return to LMS' navigation bar in Storyline 360. We don’t currently have the option to do that, but that sounds like an interesting idea that I can share with our product team.

I'll leave the question open to the community. I'd be interested to see if they had any recommendations for you.

Thanks for reaching out!

John,

Sorry, that's wasn't the question I was asking.  The 'Return to LMS' option/button had previously been part of the functionality of our LMS, but the vendor removed it at the request of other customers.

That removal has caused a problem for us as our current batch of courses all contain instructions to select the 'Return to LMS' button to leave a course.  The vendor told us that we could turn that functionality back on through the authoring software (i.e., Storyline) but that doesn't appear to be the case.  We found some information online that it might be possible to edit the published SCORM file to make the change, but that hasn't proven successful.

We've decided to just add an 'Exit Course' button to the player (Features>Player Tabs>Add New) as our solution going forward.

Thank you for your response.  I appreciate you taking the time.
