Someone else may have a better approach but have you tried using cue points? The trigger on the "Click Me" button would trigger the motion path. You could pause the timeline using cue point #1 and then create a trigger that opens the layer when it reaches the cuepoint #2.
You could insert a rectangle outside the canvas and give it a motion path with a duration of 3 seconds. Trigger the motion path of this rectangle when user clicks the button. Trigger show layer when motion path of the rectangle ends.
