3D Models in Storyline
Is there any update on this? I have numerous 3D objects that I created in blender and other programs that are saved on my computer that I would like to be able to use in Storyline. Thanks.
I'm currently putting together a solution for this. Adding models is fairly easy, but the customization I'm aiming for is more tedious. I should be able to post something within the next few weeks.

Here we are a year later. What's the update on this? People have been screaming for years for Storyline to have 3D object capability. Please advise.

Hello fellow community member!
Articulate Storyline actually experimented very successfully with importing 3d objects in their Storyline Beta program. They had built a way to import 3d objects, manipulate the camera, and (if it played well) it seemed possible in time to integrate the object's or camera's position with triggers at some future point. Here is an example that I made using import 3d object feature, for trying to explain the steep learning curve associated with camera settings.

Unfortunately, Articulate decided to scrap the whole thing.
- Maybe it was uses; I could imagine that not that many people were using it. But with all the development work that had already gone into it, it seems a little weird to have dropped it.
- From all of the conversations I was following on the topic, it appeared to be technically working. I didn't see anybody mention it not being able to rotate, or having issues importing. We knew it didn't support animations (yet), but it was a beta and we've seen animations supported on various web-players, so in time.
- I think the ai was the problem. See, Articulate has been really excited about putting ai into all of their tools, and generative-ai is still incredibly inconsistent (unlike the art that you could get from hiring an artist, or even grabbing the scraps on free 3d object sites). In this case, the ai tool was expected to generate a 3d object from a photo! Technically feasible as that might be, there were a lot of complaints in the beta chat about how sloppy those 3d objects were (never mind that the source photos were not ideal, and that few had the art skills or applications to touch up the models they generated).
At this point, if you want to work with 3d assets, I think your best option is to render an image sequence and import the sequence as states.

Alternatively, Storyline now supports webm videos, which have transparency! With the correct render settings, you can export videos and trigger them to play.
