Accessibility issues with the image & text block
- 6 months ago
Hello Sam and Chloe, 🎉
I'm happy to let you know we released a new update for Rise 360. This update adds the following feature:
- Improve screen-reader navigation and readability for all learners with adjustable heading levels
Please find the release notes here. There's nothing to install for web apps. New features and fixes are immediately available, though you might need to export your Rise 360 course again.
Let me know if you have any questions about this update or the new feature!
Hi Sam!
Just chiming in with Crystal!
For issue #1, I agree with you. The title text in Image & Text block does looks like a heading by default, however not marked up as such. Formatting it this way by default does give an impression it is a heading, though it is meant to be a paragraph. We have an open issue about allowing users to select heading levels.
For Issue #2, I went through your recording and I also agree with you. We can definitely streamline the process and clean up the experience here. Unsuspecting users may not realize that adding a caption puts the same value as their image's ALT text, and the extra <aria-labeledby> is adding to the noise. I'll get a ticket going for this.
Cheers!
Marvie
Hi Marvie,
I know this is an older thread, but I am wondering if there have been any updates on whether the issue around being able to select a heading level within the text and image block is on its way into the software. I am encountering this issue within a module at the moment, and it would be great to solve it, as the addition of images is much more appealing than just text!
Cheers,
- Chloe
