Add Text Captions Not Working - View Mode Steps - Storyline
Hi,
When I record my screen and insert the recorded slides as View More Steps, the "add text captions" option does not work properly. It only captures the correct text when it captures a click to a button, not when an option is selected in a dropdown list or a cell is clicked. Do you have any ideas about what could be the issue? I tried Storyline v 3.96, 3.95, and 3.93. I created a project last week, and this was not an issue. Now, I have to update every slide manually.

Image#3 - The caption box covers the field, and the text does not list the selected option in the dropdown list.

The captions are created based on properties that exist within the application that you are recording. For example, the "edit" button must have had a label (or the text label) that Storyline was able to access when you selected that button. It therefore knew to name the button " edit", albeit with an extra space at the start of the name.
If Storyline has not been able to get the correct label from the button, it is likely because the button does not have a label that Storyline can access. For example, when you select the dropdown list, Storyline will probably be attempting to access a name or aria-label attribute on the button so that it can be referenced correctly in the captions. If the element that is selected does not have an appropriate label, Storyline goes with a generic caption.
I find I always have to adjust the hotspots to match the HTML elements height and width after making a recording.
