This is a setting in NVDA. You can change it here by adjusting the first option. I'm not sure what the second one does.

Thanks for sharing that insight about the NVDA setting "number of characters on one line." This is so helpful to other community members!
I also want to share that the second line, Number of lines per page, sets the number of lines you will move by when pressing page up or page down while in browse mode.
