Any way of immediately disappearing a dropped object?

I converted your activity into a freeform drag and drop question. This allows me to control the location of the dropped object. I think the delay you saw was Storyline centering the dragged item in the whitespace.

Honestly not sure that made it much better. I still see the "test sample" object dropped in the space just to linger for two seconds or so before transitioning to the next screen. Guess it's just another Storyline bug?
