Arabic text goes outside the text box

Hi all,

I have have course in English, which has the audio transcript shown in  layer and the text defined by variable.

All languages have no problem in displaying the text in run time, except Arabic.

Arabic randomly text starts way outside the text box

I have set 'Use Modern Text' enabled (if i disable the Modern text, then i get junk characters in other text boxes elsewhere in the screen).

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Deepak!

I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the Arabic characters shifting to the right in a text variable. We've logged this bug with our team so I've added your comments to our current report. The workaround for this bug is to turn off Modern Text, but that doesn't seem to be the fix for your course.

We'll report back to this discussion when we have an update!

  • Hello Deepak!

I wanted to update this discussion and share that we are no longer seeing this bug, Arabic text variable reference shift to the right when previewed and published online, in our latest version of Storyline 360.

I'd recommend using Storyline 360 (Build 3.61.27106.0) or later.

You can reach our Support Team in this discussion or privately in a support case.

My issue is not developing a module in Arabic from the beginning, but taking a module created in English, exporting the Translation XLF, importing back into the module with Arabic translation and it becomes a mess...

If I used the Rise hack of adding the html code for right to Left and Hebrew, half the content of the slides seems to disappear. So thats not a runner

Is there a global setting to adjust everything to read from right to left?

As I do not use Arabic, my keyboard is English and I do not have the Paragraph option for right to left and with a module with over 60 slides and each slide has several layers it would be a nightmare to manually go through it all.

      Hello Darren!

We don't currently have a setting to globally adjust text from right to left. You can adjust the text on individual slides and on the Player.

I've filed a feature request on your behalf and linked this conversation so we can update you if it makes it on our roadmap.

        Hello Lauren,

Would you have any update on this issue or on the timing needed to address it?

        Thank you!

  • Hi, Upandgo.

There are two reports being discussed here:

    • A bug report for Arabic text variable reference shift to the right when previewed and published online. - we are no longer seeing this issue.
    • A feature request for Global Setting for Right to Left text.

Which one are you asking about?

While the feature above hasn't made it to our feature roadmap yet, this discussion is connected to the report, so we'll be sure to notify you when we have news to share.

  • Hi,

We are still facing the issue of Arabic text start from outside the text box when called from variable, during run time.

Please refer to the screenshot provided below:

    Articulate version used: 3.63.27674.0

  • Hi,

We are also facing the same issue wherein the closed captioning (added via trigger variable) text is moving out of the text box when it is called using a variable during run time.

We have used Articulate version 3.62.27443.0 and the issue still persists.

  • Hi all,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue! Are you using a text box that includes a variable reference in addition to other text? If so, you can try inserting the reference variable in its own text box.

If the Arabic text continues to run through the outlined text box after trying this workaround, are you comfortable sharing your .story file with us here or privately through a support case?
