Photopea is the best online editor. It's basically as close as you can get to Photoshop without having to pay a lot of money.
Features that you didn't know you needed:
masks - by layer and by folder
adjustment layers
smart objects (non destructive editing)
The ability to save all work in a .psd (Photoshop format)
full blending modes
Pixlr E is ok and I used that for a while but photopea allowed me to do more complex
