Arrows and Lines Won't Display

In Storyline 360 I have some arrows and lines on my slide, but when I preview or publish they disappear. I created a short recording in Replay to show what's happening. Any ideas with this? No matter what I do, I can't get my arrows to appear when I put them straight.

  • Hi there, Louise! Thanks for sharing a screenshot; I can see what you're describing and I'm really sorry about that.

We're looking into the blurry interface issue when in Preview mode and I've attached your example to its report. Mind sharing your screen resolution with me so I can also share that with our team? Simply right-click on your desktop and choose Display settings for that detail.

Publishing should not be affected, but let us know if you do run into any blurriness as we'd want to take a closer look! Thanks again, Louise – and we'll also post all updates here once we have them!

  • I think I have the latest version (updated Nov 27th 2018 - 3.22.17236.0) and I can't see any arrows I have inserted when I use the Preview option....  help!  Sounds like this had been an issue with an earlier version but was fixed?

  • Hi Christine and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

I have not heard of this issue cropping back up, and a quick test using the built-in arrow shapes works as expected for me.

Would you be able to share a sample .story file where you are experiencing this issue so we can take a closer look?

      Hi Leslie

Sorry - I worked it out! Thx for your prompt response though! I had imported the slides from Powerpoint and forgot the arrows were set to appear on a mouse click.... oops.

Can I ask... is there an easy way to loop a video without having to set up 2 triggers? I can do it that way, but it seems a bit laborious compared to Powerpoint where I just click a single button that says loop video until finish (or something along those lines)?

And... is there an easy way to have text added to the screen when I click the mouse as required so that the text is added to the slide as I get to the point I want to make? I would like to be able to do this when I'm lecturing in person (most of what we do is online so I can set cues on the timeline, but when lecturing in person, I'd like to be able to just click to add the next point when required).

I don't seem to be able to find simple solutions for these things?

      Thanks so much,

  • Great questions, Christine!

To loop a video in Storyline, you'll just need one "Play media [video] with media completes" trigger. Storyline doesn't have a video looping button like the one in PowerPoint.

To make text appear when you click the mouse, you'll want to get a little creative. Here's one way to set it up:

    • First, add a layer to the slide, and add the text to that layer.
    • Next, add a hotspot to the base layer with a trigger to "show the layer when the user clicks the hotspot".
    • While lecturing in person, click the mouse within the hotspot, and the text will appear.

      Hello,

Sorry to hear that you encountered this issue.

I am not seeing this behavior anywhere else, and any bug reports associated with this case has been fixed in an earlier release of Storyline 360.

With that being said, would you mind providing me with more details regarding the behavior you're experiencing so I can take a look at what's happening?

If you're willing, you can share a recording of the behavior you're experiencing, as well as a copy of your project file by sharing it here or privately through a support case
