As frustrated as I have expressed myself to be at what seems like 'tease promotion', I can tell you that the guys (and girls!) at Articulate are working hard to produce a product that will adequately (and correctly) give you what you're looking for.
In the meantime, have you guys signed up to be beta testers for Storyline? See below:

We haven't really shared much outside of the beta regarding Storyline specifics due to the beta's Non Disclosure Agreement.
as for release dates, etc? don't know, but i wish i did.
probably like you, i am one of those people whose e-learning department is waiting for the other shoe to drop so that plans can be made, etc.
