Articulate Storyline Course with Menu of Videos - offline use
Hi Storyline Community!
A colleague of mine in Guatemala is currently leading an e-learning pilot project for rural farmers. His team has created 12 videos of 2 minutes per video, and the plan is to have these videos downloaded to a tablet they will provide to each farmer.
Ideally, the goal would be to have a menu of the 12 videos (tiles/thumbnails of video) in Storyline and the user can pick which video to view. However, there are a few challenges/caveats:
- They don't have an LMS for this phase of the project
- The rural farmers do not have access to internet.
- They would like the menu of the videos to be clickable in which the learner can see the thumbnails of the video and select the ones most interested in.
I thought about a few solutions:
- We could publish the videos in MP4, however, the critical component is that they want the learner to have a similar LMS type of experience with the thumbnail of the video and they select it and the content appears.
- We could publish the content for Web which can be downloadable offline. However, it would be hard for farmers to navigate it since they have limited education, and plus it would not have "tiles/thumbnails" of each video they can click on and get the content.
Do you have any solutions or alternatives we can do?
Thank you so much!
Best,
Nia
Hello Nia,
Happy to help!
We’ve made changes to offline viewing since the removal of Flash. With that, there is no longer a built-in way to allow learners to view courses offline on a mobile device. We have a feature request logged to allow offline playback on mobile devices which I've added your voice to.
I will update this discussion if I have any news to share or if this request makes it to our feature roadmap.
As a workaround, you can try the workaround shared by this community member for viewing offline courses on Android devices. You'll need to publish your course for web distribution if you're planning on checking this solution out.
