Attempting to edit Storyline projects saved by former colleague

A former colleague shared Storyline I have Zip files for a couple dozen Storyline projects that require editing.  Each contains 4 folders: html5, lms, mobile, story_content.  There are also several other files that are html, xsd, and xml.  There are no .story files

What is the process for opening the projects in Storyline with the files I have available?

  • There really isn't a way. Sorry, but without the .story file, SL can't do it.

  • Hi Caitlin,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're running into this issue. Walt is correct; you'll need the original .story file to edit the project.  We recommend working on and saving projects to your local hard drive. If you have access to the former colleague's computer, you can try searching for a backup file there. Here's how:

    1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline.
    2. Scan the contents of this folder for a .story file
    3. If you find the file, copy it to your desktop (if you find more than one, copy the latest version).
    4. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
    5. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

    I hope this helps!
