Audio Preview Issue in Storyline (Windows 11, x64)
Over the last couple of days I've had an issue that persists across old and new files, new and old software versions, reboots, and full uninstall/reinstall processes. When previewing audio in the AI Text-to-Speech and Media Library windows, no audio is actually played. Audio already in a slide will play fine. I can even generate an AI audio clip and insert it into the slide and it will play there, but it won't play the preview in the AI window. Adding audio to the Media Library and trying to play it there also does not work. Even the previews for the voice models don't play back. The play button will change to a pause button but nothing plays. In generated audio previews and media library previews, the time bar doesn't even show up when hitting play. The play button changes and literally nothing else. Not even a read out of how long the clip is. I haven't tried it in the subtitle editor yet, but I'd imagine audio doesn't work there either. Audio in all other apps works as expected and across all outputs I can use (built-in to laptop, built-in to external monitors, bluetooth audio). Has anyone run into a similar issue and found a fix? I filed a ticket with support yesterday but have yet to hear back and the chatbot didn't have anything to add beyond asking to file a support ticket. I can prepare a screen recording if anyone needs more context.

Hi there, I am also experiencing a very similar issue that I'm wondering if its related?
I have a new work laptop - Windows 11 x64.
There were two updates performed recently, one with Storyline, one was a system update and since then I have not been able to hear AI preview audio or play sound from my media library either in Storyline.
I am wondering if this issue may be related (it could definitely be a user error too) as I have no other issue with sound on any other app on the laptop.Hi HelenSmith-8caa,
Thanks for jumping in here and sharing what you’re seeing! I understand how this could cause confusion, especially since everything else seems to be working as expected.
Since you’ve already reached out to our Support team, you’re in the right place. It looks like they’ve started with some good initial troubleshooting steps like repairing Storyline and clearing the cache, which often helps with unexpected behavior like this.
Given that your experience closely matches Cory’s, it’s helpful that both cases are being looked at. One thing to keep in mind is that preview playback in the AI Text-to-Speech window and Media Library uses a slightly different process than timeline playback, so issues like this can sometimes be tied to system-level updates or environment-specific factors.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend continuing to work with the support engineer on your case and sharing any updates there. If the issue persists after those steps, they may want to take a closer look at logs or environment details to narrow things down further.
We’ll keep an eye on this thread as well in case there are broader patterns or updates to share.

Hi coryforrest,
Thanks for sharing all those details. I see what you’re running into here.
Since you already have a case open, we’ll continue the troubleshooting there to keep everything in one place. It looks like the team is actively working with you and reviewing the additional logs you’re sending over, which should help move things forward.
