Calculating Estimated Completions in Storyline
Is there a way for storyline to provide a total estimated completion time based on the timelines for each slide or do I need to calculate that manualy?

One way to consider is found under publishing
The main caveat to this option, is that is only calculating the timelines of the slides in the course. If you have a lot of content living on layers, this will not be included in the total time.
Another option to consider, is to paste the script of your course into a script timer -
This should give you a fairly accurate representation of how long the whole course may be
