I am currently exploring this option as well. Our team has decided not to use a "custom menu" which would allow us to lock/unlock content based on variables.
Using the built-in player, the only solution would be to access to back-end through JavaScript and adjust the "flow" settings. I have not been able to successfully do this yet, though my JavaScript skills are pretty basic.
