Changing text in object does not change it in all states

I have created a text object with seven states:

  • Normal
  • Hover
  • Visited
  • Selected
  • Correct
  • Incorrect
  • Disabled

These are all "off the shelf" states. My client has asked to change the text in the text object and when I make the change, it changes the text in all of the states except "Disabled". Note that each state has its own text color, border, and background, but that shouldn't matter. If it works to change some states, it should change them all.

Any clues as to why this is happening? It is the exact same text in all states.

Joe - If you scroll up to my post from 5 years ago, you can download the file I uploaded as an example of this problem.

  • I'm having this same problem.  In 2023...  The original post was 2017.  I can't believe that the standard solution is "rebuild the slide" and that buggy behavior like this hasn't been resolved yet?!?

I can add that I used the Format Painter to copy the states across several check boxes.  The text from the original is copying with the states.  Normal and Selected seem to work as expected, retaining the text of the response item.  Down, Disabled, and Hover all contain mismatched text that does not appear linked to the Normal state or the Form View.

  • I am attempting to copy and paste translated quiz questions and answers into a project.  When I copy and paste the translation, all default states are updating except for the selected state.  This is adding a lot of unnecessary clicks for me to check and update one of the five states.

      Hello Phillip,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I made this recording to show how I tested the behavior you reported. I couldn't replicate the problem with the selected state, or any state when I pasted a translation into a quiz answer.

There's a possibility that a combination of formatting modifications made to the text or quiz answers could be causing the behavior. Please share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case for testing. Looking forward to your response!

  • I'll join the party. I've got the same issue and just submitted a support case for it. I tried importing it into a new project and the issue remains.

Here's the file if anyone has discovered a workaround for this.

  • Here's a workaround I did for my project. I created a new object with the title word only, and set a trigger for the object to be hidden on click, and put what I'd had on the back of the card on the table in another object. This way it was click and reveal instead of change state. A little more complicated because I had the sound toggle when it flipped before, but I made it work with an additional trigger. This piece has the problem slide first, then the work around.
