Changing the temp and output folders location
Hi there,
1. The course package output location.
The default location is
C:\Users\username\Documents\My Articulate Projects
I switched to a different location and restarted the program, but it reverted to the default location. Is there a way to make my new location stick?
2. Auto Recovery Location
The default location is
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Storyline
Can this be changes?
3. Temp/Cache file location
When I publish a course to Review 360, it creates temporary files on the system drive. Is there a way to change the location where these files are stored?
I am asking because my PC has two SSDs, one dedicated to the operating system and applications, and the other for storing everything else to optimize performance. Some software allows users to customize the file path for temporary or output folders. I'm hoping Storyline offers that flexibility as well.
Hi TianxuanLiu ! Thanks for the great questions and for sharing your setup!
In Storyline 360, some file paths are fixed. The default output location (C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\My Articulate Projects) can be changed when you publish, but it resets each time. Auto recovery files save to C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Storyline, and temp files for Review 360 publishing go to your system’s default temp folder, typically on the C: drive. Unfortunately, none of these paths can be changed.
That design helps ensure reliability and consistent performance. Storyline relies on standard Windows directories to avoid issues that can come from using external or network drives, especially for autosave and publishing processes.
We understand why you'd want to use your secondary SSD. That’s a smart move for performance. I’ve shared this feedback with our product team as a feature request. If there’s anything else you’d like us to consider, let us know!
