Checkmarks in Storyline - How to make them permanent state once "checked"

I have a Storyline training that requires the student to check two boxes affirming they completed the education. I set that slide to resume saved state. However, whenever I go back to that slide the checkmarks are unchecked. How do I make it permanent whether the user during the same session goes back to other slides and returns to the final affirmation slide or at some later date after completion goes back to review the education https://ncedcloudam.com and eventually returns to the affirmation slide. I must be missing something very simple. Thank you. T
