Clicking a video is considered playing, but playing is not considered clicking

Hi,

In the triggers list, it is possible to trigger an event when a video is "clicked", and Articulate also plays the video when clicked.

However, if the play button in the control bar is clicked, the video plays, but the trigger is *not* fired.

Can these actions please be linked?

Many thanks in advance.

  • Hello DeveloperIgniti,

Thanks for reaching out! Storyline doesn’t currently have a trigger that fires when clicking a video.

As a workaround, you can place a hotspot over the video (making sure it doesn’t cover the video controls). Then set it to play the video and add your desired trigger action when the hotspot is clicked.

I’ve attached a sample Storyline file to show how this can be done.

If you have any other questions or ideas, feel free to let us know.

I'm not sure this answers the query EricSantos . The issue is that you can set a trigger "do X when user clicks video", but this trigger doesn't work if the user clicks the video control rather than the video itself.

For example, I want to adjust a variable when the video is clicked, including if the user clicks the video control. I also want users to be able to seek in the video if they wish so covering it with a hotspot isn't a good solution.
