Customizing Menu Completion Checkmarks in Storyline 360 Modern Player

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a course in Articulate Storyline 360 using the Modern Player, and I've noticed that the built-in menu completion behavior marks a menu item with a checkmark as soon as the learner visits the corresponding slide.

My requirement is slightly different.

Instead of displaying the checkmark when a slide is merely visited, I'd like the menu item to be marked as complete only after the learner has fully completed the slide, such as:

  • Viewing all content on the slide
  • Completing all required interactions
  • Visiting all layers or tabs
  • Finishing an activity or knowledge check
  • Reaching the end of the slide timeline

Currently, the menu checkmark appears immediately upon entering the slide, which does not accurately reflect the learner's completion status.

My questions are:

  1. Is there any way to customize the built-in menu completion tracking in the Modern Player?
  2. Can the menu checkmark be tied to a custom completion condition rather than slide visitation?
  3. Has anyone found a workaround or best practice to display completion status only after all required interactions on a slide are completed?
  4. Would creating a custom menu be the only option, or is there a setting, trigger, variable-based approach, or JavaScript solution that can modify the behavior of the built-in menu?

I would appreciate any guidance, recommendations, or examples from those who have encountered a similar requirement.

Thank you in advance for your help!

The Modern Player menu is limited the checkmark is based on slide visitation and can't be changed to custom completion. If you need checkmarks only after interactions or activities are finished, a custom variable-driven menu is the most practical solution. It's the approach most Storyline developers use for this requirement.
