Do Radio Buttons in Quizzes Meet the New WCAG 2.2 SC 2.5.8 requirement?
The WCAG 2.2 recent release, includes the success criteria 2.5.8, Target Size (Minimum) (Level AA). I am using radio buttons for quiz questions and would like to know if the target size for pointer input is at least 24 by 24 CCS pixels. There are some exceptions to this, including spacing between the buttons, but as I am not a developer, I am unsure if the current size/spacing of these radio buttons in a published course meets the minimum requirement. Does anyone else in the community know? I have been using this WCAG 2.2 Understanding Doc webpage on SC 2.5.8 for guidance: https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/Understanding/target-size-minimum.html
Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for asking about the new criteria. We began evaluating the product output when WCAG 2.2 was released in October 2023. In November 2023, the International Edition of the VPAT was updated to Version 2.5, so we will continue to test and share an updated VPAT in Q1 2024.
In the meantime, I wanted to reassure you that the target area for radio buttons is larger than the actual button, is controlled by the author, and by default stretches across most of the slide. I'm attaching an image for reference. The blue highlight indicates the target to choose the radio button.
Hope this helps!
