Does text to speech feature always play automatically?
I am trying out text to speech on my course and the speech plays automatically when the slide starts. Is this usual and is the way to stop it to place a trigger and then a button to start the audio?...

The default behavior for any audio (text-to-speech or when you insert your own) is that it will play automatically, as it's part of the timeline.
You can adjust it on the timeline, so it doesn't play right away:
You can also pause it when the timeline starts, then use a button to play it.
