Drawing lines & shapes

Hi all,

Could be a really silly question but this doesn't seem to be covered in any tutorials... Can someone please help me with how to animate drawn lines and shapes in Storyline?

For example - you have two text boxes and you want to draw a line between the two so when the learner looks at it they see the line being drawn from one box to the other.

Thanks

  • For drawing lines, I always use the wipe animation on lines and it looks like it is being drawn out. If you are looking to give users something more interactive to do, something like the attached could be useful. The colored boxes are guides for how everything should line up, and I would make them transparent before I published my courses.

    Good luck.

If you are using storyline 1 than its not possible in it but if you are using Storyline 2 then you can do it by using "Wipe animation effect " on the line.

Attached is a storyfile example, I hope it helps you.

  • The wipe animation doesn't work on Ipads, so I'm avoiding it. if you are really desperate you can try a frame by frame animation on the time line

This thread is from such a long time ago, but this is exactly what I want to do. Is there a more current way to do it in 360?

    Hi Katie,

thanks for the video, very informative.  I take it that I could use a trigger to set off the line rather than just the timeline.  I am wanting to do something similar showing the path along a circuit depending on the selections made however I will need to have more than one line and they wouldn't all be straight, I was thinking that I would be grouping these together and then they would all flow after that, hopefully, what do you think?

  • Hi Anthony!

I'm happy to help! It sounds like a great plan. However, I want to point out that you would want to add a trigger for each line since groups can't be triggered.

Let us know how it goes!
