I'm adding my comment to say having this variable built-in would be helpful to me as well.
Thanks for chiming in, NicholeSande365! I can see how having a built-in way to capture elapsed time at the layer level, especially for quick interactions like reaction-time measurements, would be really helpful and would reduce the need for JavaScript workarounds.
