Estimated Seat Time or Duration of Course
Does Rise have a feature like Storyline360 that allows you to see an estimated Duration of the Course?

Hello, please implement this feature as soon as possible. With the implementation of AI, this should be an easy upgrade. Is there an update on when this feature will be added?

Thanks for adding your voice here, AmberPorras.
At the moment, Rise doesn’t offer a way to automatically calculate or display estimated seat time for custom courses. We know this has been a highly requested feature for a long time, especially for teams that need duration estimates for planning, reporting, or compliance purposes.
Your feedback, along with the input shared by others in this thread, has been added to the existing feature request so our product team can continue to assess demand and use cases. While I don’t have any updates to share right now, we’ll be sure to post here if anything changes.

This would be a valuable tool in course development. Has there been any movement on this request?

Any update on this? Its fairly commonplace to want this information.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for checking in on this!
I don't have an update at this time, but I've shared your post with our developers. We'll update this thread once we have news on this feature.

Yes please - 5 years after this original post I am still interested in seat team estimates from RISE. Thank you!

Word count and estimated course duration are requirements when filing courses for Continuing Education Credits. At least this is the way it is in the insurance world. So, this feature is not a nice to have, it is a MUST have.

Hi Cortney
I think what would be ideal is a an estimated course duration range. "This course takes approximately 16-20 minutes to complete."
Perhaps, it could be calculated based on dividing the word count by an average reading speed and then adding some extra time based on the number of interactive elements.
If that is not doable in the short term, then a simple reading time (word count divided by average reading speed, but ignoring the interactive elements) would still be helpful.
Thanks
Pete

How long does it take to complete an interaction or a quiz? There is no real way of telling. Influencing factors:
- The number of interactions and the time spent on interactions
- The time spent on Quizzes which is impacted by the number of Quizzes, and the number of questions in each quiz, and the complexity of the questions.
Checking our LMS, for the same course, the quickest student completion time was just less than 1 hour. The slowest was 5 hours. That's a huge variation.
In my opinion, Rise simply cannot produce an accurate time estimate. as there are too many variables.

Perhaps, in situations like yours, when the course is very long and has lots of interactions that is true.
However, I am not convinced that it is impossible for Rise to calculate the word count and average reading time. We could then manually add some extra time for interactions ourselves.
Given how many people want this feature that seems like a minimum response.

Both would be great. Is there a way to have a word count feature and then some built-in algorithm that can estimate course duration based on word count + video length?
