You’ve made some really good points here. I’ve not had chance to have a thorough look at the new functionality yet. At first glance what they've added is basically Figma’s auto layout, almost control for control. Fixed, Hug and Fill are Figma’s terminology also. So is the nine-dot alignment grid. As you suggest; having a wrap function would be a great addition. Perhaps a wrap toggle with a minimum item width. That alone would give 3/2/1 grids. Figma’s auto layout launched without wrap too; it took them years to add it!

The position settings are just flexbox properties. Fixed is width in px, Hug is fit-content, Fill is flex: 1, Direction is flex-direction, Gap and Padding are what they say. The alignment grid is justify-content and align-items. It would make sense to add flex-wrap, order and any kind of grid…
