Focus order issue with drop-down menus in Storyline

I'm experiencing an accessibility issue with the focus order on a Storyline slide containing four drop-down menus.

In the Focus Order settings, the drop-down menu activities are correctly placed before the Submit button.

However, when I preview or publish the module, the actual keyboard focus order does not follow the order defined in Storyline. The Submit button receives focus before the answer choices within the four drop-down menus.

This creates an accessibility issue, as users navigating with a keyboard or assistive technology can reach the Submit button before navigating through the available answers.

I haven't found a way to change this behavior or make the published focus order match the order defined in the Focus Order panel.

I've attached a simplified Storyline project containing only the slide where the issue occurs.

Has anyone encountered this behavior before? Is there a way to control the focus order of the options within drop-down menus so that they are reached before the Submit button?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi, I've just been playing with this. I can't test it with a screen reader for two reasons. 1. I don't have a French voice installed. 2. The audio plays automatically and this conflicts. However, I can test with keyboard using the tab key. I can solve the problem by adding the text boxes back into the focus order.

Sorry, I just continued playing and realised that you also need to move the other layers below the main layer in the focus order, otherwise the continue button does not appear in the tab order.

Also, on the "Chaque entreprise autorise des outils spécifiques" layer, the items come in with a delay. so a screen reader user may navigate past the content before it actually appears. With keyboard, I got the Back to top button because I clicked tab before the continue button arrived.
