Frontline trial review

References: Main Frontline Q&A staff thread with links and discussion.

Borrowing Tarantino's non-linear narrative, I would open with this stage of the trial, depicting me to Frontline:

We'll work up to the famous AI response.

Skipping to an earlier scene, I stepped into the roles of other non-A360 seat license holders in the org to trial Frontline with their scenario in mind.

Now in the wearing a HR BP hat, I've been tasked with upgrading the onboarding induction. I gather a few of the best company videos, a 60sec hype video, a 75sec intro clip of a group overview video, adding a branded capabilities presentation, company logo image file, brand theme colour hex code, and single PDF of all company policies beginning with the code of conduct. Throw all that into the magic pot and a kit pops out.

A Frontline kit is a training package built around a single goal and composed of multiple artifacts in different formats: guides, training decks, scenarios, interactive videos, and quick references. Instead of building each format separately, you use a single source and prompt, and Nova generates the most appropriate artifacts from it all at once.

Intended deliverable is a linear interactive video to assure completion of the onboarding induction, to establish you who you're working for, the main code of conduct details and other policies to review. The rest of the kit features aren't desired outcomes, but if credits remain, I'll poke around see what they produce.

Interactive Videos... bumpy start

The short 90sec to 4min source vids didn't work well separately, as numerous interactions generated on first pass disrupted the short run time making a clunky completion. The obvious step is to combine them into one longer video. That is not possible in the interface, so I performed that in MS Clipchamp.

A more significant stumble for the first test, one video source that used text motion graphics with background audio, couldn't be accepted without a voiceover. I used Google Vids to generate captions and then prompted Google Vids to add voiceover using those captions, just so the updated video (with poorly timed unwanted narration) could be accepted as a source video in Frontline.

Lesson learnt: if I instead merged the videos first before first test, it would just be seen as background audio, identify voiceover in other video segments and accept the single video as a source (up to 45min 500MB video files).

This is where the cheat code feeling of Sorcerer's Apprentice begins, control and power to make magic happen (if your source video is ready for it ;)

🙀😲🤯
I found this Rise > Interactive Video | E-Learning Heroes while writing this review, I didn't see it available via Frontline hub before trialling FL. It's accessing the same editor via Nova credits in Rise. As an A360 with AI team member account holder, I'll be keen to re-run this with the lessons learnt, within Rise.
This kind of spoils the rest of this review, doh. 🤦‍♂️
With a HR BP hat on, the video use was minimal, the slide deck creation was a flop.
I was also testing the same goals in parallel using Google Notebook with Gemini AI Pro (personal subscription), Copilot GPT 5.6 Sol Think Deeper (enterprise SOE), both generating actual useful results.

The new Googlebook Megapixel dongle.

Using up the remainder of Frontline trial credits on the secondary items for the company policies PDF and capabilities .pptx into something whizz-bang-wow. No YOLO silver bullets despite retry attempts eventuated. I pulled the one armed bandit shutting my eyes hoping for three cherries... of course you know I got 🍋🍋🍋 again and again.
On the upside, there's a great life lesson here delivered by an all-star cast in Drowning Mona (2000) - just mind 🎧 on NSFW.

The Frontline slide deck, Quiz, Quick Reference, missed the mark for substance. It generated a cappuccino with overflowing foam when I was seeking the smallest ristretto possible, or piccolo.

Now with the Frontline sorcerer's hat on, I'm able to craft this self-service onboarding induction ready for an LMS.

This statement has since been cut, but I think with the rate of change of front¡er models versus what is wrapped in the app, it's probably within 3 months of worth testing this benchmark I've created, I'll post back as the control scenario.

The interface is simple and easy, the Rise link is the TLDR now. Consistent with the tool suite, we can focus on the content. I found I wanted less interaction, just at transition points of video segments to restrict no-look play through to end. My idea to leave Frontline and just use Rise and SL360, is now moot as Rise has it with restricted navigation enabled, should observe the interactive video "required" interactions.

Add a final quiz drafted by PDF to Rise AI Assistant for the policy awareness quiz. Bish bash bosh. Wham bam thank you m'am. Bob's your uncle. Royale with cheese.

Frontline may be an offering at a price point.

My trial conclusion is it's made the A360 suite and Rise particularly appear 10x more valuable. Frontline may be good in a business case cost alternative to represent how much better the top shelf is if looking after the L&D function in your organisation.

If non-trial useful product without limits at U$500/annum minimum is easy to budget, I could work within the limits and get a lot of mileage by using it economically to conserve credits if some of the basic PDF to slide deck stepped up when the newer AI models used trickle down. I'd suggest keeping a mix of access to other tools to see what strengths and weaknesses look like for your own benchmark tasks and the economy a suitable outcome can be achieved with.

Some people skip meals so their children can eat. I worry my future old age will be skipping meals so my AI subscriptions keep eating credits.
