Glossary in Rise 360

Has anyone found a way to create a glossary in Rise 360 that is easily and readily available for learners, as needed?  This can be done in Storyline 360 by including it as a resource but I haven't figured out a workaround for Rise.

Any assistance is appreciated!!

  • Elizabeth, on a separate note, I didn't know these quick tips existed.  Will you share with me how I can navigate to them on the site without bookmarking them separately?

Hi Kimberlee!  All of the QuickTips are archived here - and you are correct they'd just use the left menu navigation to go back to their lesson, which is why it's a great idea to let them know how to use your glossary setup up front!

Hey Elizabeth, I know this is an old thread, but your list of quick tips is there and would be super helpful if they listed what was covered in each. Might y'all have a list like that? Spreadsheet? Tags list?  (egads, I'm imagining having to create one for the 86 episodes i see, haha).
It would be really helpful to scan through them look at the ones that were especially interesting to a person
I realize you can put in a search term, but I just wanted to spend time going through some of them based on the tip i was interested in. :)

  • Thank you so much, Elizabeth!!!!!  I just had an opportunity to listen to the recording.  Even though what I was interested in was discussed first in the recording, I truly appreciate that there were markers on where the content begins. 😊

I like the 'Terms Glossary' button that you used to link learners to another lesson with all the terms in there.  Am I correct that they would just need to navigate back to the lesson they were in (using the left navigation pane) to continue?

  • All true.  I do like the option of creating a lesson (the first one) for this course for learners to access.  Thanks so much for sharing your experience about this with me!!!

Hi Kimberlee! This is a great question!  I covered this very topic in a Quick Tips webinar a couple of weeks ago!  Here's the link to the recording.

Thanks Elizabeth. Umm - I am really new to rise 360, so it would have been great, if you had shown us how to produce the 'button link' to glossary? (I understood that the Table insert, was used for the Table of terms, and the Interactive Glossary was done by selecting 'process' in the 'All actions' function at the bottom of editing the content..).

Is there any chance you can list the instructions? Thanks.

We only have one Glossary for the entire course in its own Lesson, as it would clutter up the other lessons by repeating it in each one. Having multiples of the Glossary also becomes a maintenance issue.

We use the setting where only one Accordion item can be open at a time.

  • Thanks Karl.  I was thinking that if I do use the Accordion block, that I would need to include it in every lesson - :-(

Do you include your glossary in the accordion tab at the top or bottom?

This is something that is really lacking in Rise, as there is no way to separately attach resources like a Glossary. A Glossary needs to be available to a learner at any time, and they should be able to access it from anywhere.

We use Accordion blocks in a Lesson for our Glossary. A Glossary is something that may or may not be used, so using a Lesson to create one is problematic because it potentially affects your course completion if the completion setting is based on the percentage of the course viewed.

If the Glossary is in a Lesson, it also means learners need to leave the Lesson they are currently in in order to view the Glossary, and then navigate back to where they were before.

I've solved the completion issue in the past by adding a requirement that the learner at least visit the Glossary once. You can do this as a course walkthrough that demonstrates the interface and resources. A button interaction is an interaction after all, so you can add one in the walkthrough and not let the learner proceed until they have taken a quick look at it.
