Grouped icons fall apart when moving.
Hi everyone,
sorry if this has been answered/resolved before but I'm unable to find a thread on it. Occasionally when moving 2 or more icons in a group (to make one icon) they morph beyond all recognition. Pressing "undo" only moves the bounding box back and doesn't effect the icons. So there is no way to recover the icons. Has anyone else experienced this diabolical bug and come up with a workaround? It happens after copying and pasting the icons into another project. Obviously that is the only way to move assets as Storyline eschews an asset library interface. The two images below show what happens when moving the groups about 15 pixels to the left. As I say there is no recovery process.

This bug happens still but also happens when shift selecting multiple objects to move, one or 2 of the objects will not move the same as the rest causing misalignments.

Same issue for me. I tried to get around the "icons have no fill and are difficult to click" issue by combining an icon and a shape within a state, only to discover this issue with copying/moving the now two objects. Grrrrrr....I've been using Rise recently and this is the first time I've used Storyline in months. What a reward!
FYI I've tried all of the above, as well as changing monitor resolutions, zoom factors, and opening Storyline in the main and extended display to no avail. Totally agree with Mark that the graphics manipulation capability of Storyline is lacking. Please fix Articulate!

Steve,
Copy the icon, then select and edit the shape. In the normal state, paste the icon. Done in this fashion, they become one object.
Because the Normal state is the basis for the other states, you can save a lot of time by performing this action before creating any other states.

Thanks for the advice Walt, I'll try that next time. I've now given up on this Storyline interaction. I was trying to build it into Rise to make the Rise course more mobile compatible. The Storyline interaction had a zoom region in it, but when the user touched the zoomed content on their mobile screen, the slide would 'slide' across to an another part of the same slide. No doubt another known glitch with Storyline, but I've run out of patience. I'm going back to Rise, because it works....Thanks.

Yes, definitely STILL a glitch with Undo and grouped/sub-grouped objects - it happens to me multiple times a week. I just had this happen now, where I pasted an item ON TOP of a grouped element (with sub-groups). I then moved the pasted item to another location on top of the group, but wasn't happy so I pressed Undo and the objects INSIDE the grouped element actually horizontally scaled to around 130% wider. No matter what I do now, the grouped objects WILL NOT correct back to what they were. I'm going to have to either close the unsaved project (losing other edits I've made) or manually fix it - which is a problem because I have the elements on this slide aligned with a Move animation to the previous slide.
SUCH A PAIN!
BTW, sometimes I find that when grouped objects go weird after pressing Undo, if I select the group and nudge it with the arrow keys (ie press the left, then right arrow keys to put the object back where it was), they will often correct themselves. Unfortunately that didn't work for me today, hence why I'm in here looking for solace with other frustrated Storyline users.
This is a MAJOR glitch and I'm sad to see it's this old!

Hello. Still an ongoing issue. With the span of time this issue has been reported, I am wondering if this going to be fixed or should we avoid using this very basic design function and look for stable options other than Storyline? Thank you.

I did find out that sometimes it's a visual bug and you can move the group slightly to fix it, however, this does not work in all cases. Sometimes the objects in the group change their size and this is not fixable through undoing, you have to resizes or remake the group entirely.
+1 to finding more stable software than Storyline
