HeyGen and Storyline Integration Tips?

I'm trying to make a video with HeyGen using one of their avatars. I want him to introduce the course and then later another avatar incorporated as a Mentor for when the learner is having issues.

I want to make the avatar video piece more visually appealing. Like have words come up on the screen to highlight important things. I'm having a HECK of a time getting these to work in HeyGen. Like pull my hair out hard. I've wasted WAY to long trying to do this.

I'm wondering if it would be easier to just get the avatar the way I want and then bring him into Storyline and add triggers to make the text appear within SL.

Has anyone done this before? Any tips? I'm new to HeyGen but very familiar with video making tools, Vyond, etc. It can't be this hard, can it? We have a paid HeyGen account, but it is really slowing down my process. šŸ˜’

  • Hi CarlaGoldberg-e  I did this on my last project (which was also localized—meaning we created new HeyGen videos for each language). As the avatar introduced the module, the training title, logo, module title, interactive table of contents buttons, and instruction text appeared one after another with entrance animations. You don’t need triggers—just the timeline and cue points. You drop your video alone onto the timeline. You listen and mark the moment when your avatar says ā€œWelcome toā€¦ā€ and then place the title text on the timeline. And so on. That’s it. (And it works just as easily with localization, since you can move or extend each text block depending on the language.) Especially if you need to modify an item (a single word in a text, animation), you don’t have to redo the video. I highly recommend it.

That's what I was thinking of doing I just could not articualte like you did. 😃 I wasted WAY too much time trying to make things work in HeyGen. I'm of course disappointed that we get these fancy tools, but I'm still going back to good old Storyline to make it the way I want it. LOL  Love Storyline, I was just trying to make the process faster, meanwhile I wasted way more time.  Thank you!

  • Sometimes, to work ā€œfaster,ā€ you need to break the process down so you can quickly fix a single step, rather than having to redo the whole thing every time. In your case—and mine—creating the video separately from the various animations that overlay it will prevent you (and has prevented me) from going crazy. As a 100% storyliner, I really insisted that the video creator do it this way, and I was right. Trust me.😁 Have a good CarlaGoldberg-e
