Hotbox Functionality On Paused Timeline

So, you attempted to block the objects using another object. Would it not obstruct the view? Did you make the object with "No fill"? If yes, would the object still be solid, or would it only be a frame object, and thus clicking in the transparent part would go through it to the object underneath? Does SL treat differently between a "No fill" and a 100% opacity?
How do you pause the timeline? Placing a cue?
I am trying to achieve something similar, but I want to avoid using cues. Is it possible to pause the timeline 1 ms before the end of an object's timeline?
