How are captions and alt-text for images handled in Rise?
I'm finding inconsistent answers for this question in past forum posts so I'm hoping for clarification.
I have images with captions in various blocks in Rise courses. How are captions and alt-text attached to a given image read by screen readers? Is it:
- caption
- alt-text
or
- alt-text
- caption
or
- alt-text
- (skip caption)
I also will assume the treatment is the same for any image in Rise but if there are variations (or glitches) please let me know! Thanks!

Hi Margaret,
I understand you need help with how screen readers read alt-text and captions. I am glad to see that you opened a support case and John already helped you out. Have a good one. - MichelleDealCommunity Member
May I also have the answer to this question?
Hi there, Michelle! You bet!
To keep it simple, the alt text is attached to the image object itself, while the caption is a separate text object from the image.
This means that the screen reader will announce whichever object comes first from left to right, or top to bottom, between the image and the text caption. If the image comes first, the screen reader will announce its alt text before proceeding to the caption.
