How can I get learner to fill in a field before slides moves on...

Having looked at YouTube videos I am none of the wiser so here I am to ask you clever peeps.

I've taken a break from Storyline360 for a bit and forgotten how to use it 😝

I have recorded my screen for an interactive eLearning course where I am filling in a form - entering a Forename, then Surname, and Date of birth. My learner needs to type into those fields, so I inserted a text box in the Forename field to enable this. Having previewed this, although I can type in the text field, the slide remains stuck and shows the failure layer That's incorrect. Please try again.

Is there a tutorial that can teach me how to get that to work please?

NOTE: I don't want a Submit button button, instead the slide ought to move on naturally to allow the learner to see the forename they  have added, and now waits for them to type in the next field, i.e. Surname field.

Do I leave the Hotspot that's automatically inserted on the slide?

Many thanks for your help.

  • Hi Meera,

Are you using the Text Entry Field to capture the learner's name? This is the field that can capture what the learner types, such as their name, store the information in a variable, and allow you to retrieve it later.

In Storyline, you can go to Insert>Input>Text Entry Field. The learner can input their name, which is stored in a text variable, typically called "Text Entry" unless you change the name.

Later, you can recall that information from the Text Entry variable by inserting a Text Box wherever you need it. After creating the text box, choose Insert>Reference and choose the Text Entry variable that you used to capture the learner's name. Whatever was typed in the initial text entry box will show up as the reference inside your text box.

Did you create a question slide instead of a normal slide? Perhaps that is why you are being asked for a submission and having it marked incorrect?

Hi Kendal - I recorded  my screen so not sure if SL360 automatically converts it into a question slide? Thank you for your other advice which I will have a play with.

      Hello SibaPrasadPadhi

It sounds like you'd like the slide to automatically advance when the audio finishes, but it isn't moving to the next slide as expected. Happy to learn more!

      • Is the slide set to Advance automatically in the Slide Properties?
      • Does the audio end at the same time as the slide timeline, or does the timeline continue after the audio finishes?
      • Are there any triggers, layers, or interactive objects on the slide that might be preventing the slide from advancing?

We'd be happy to take a closer look at your .story file within a support case

Looking forward to hearing from you!
