Screen reader reads "Slide" before it reads the name of the slide
Hello!
I have a question regarding screen reader behaviours. I am using NVDA while I'm testing my course which is built in Storyline 360.
After I have published my course and uploaded it to a LMS, I have tested it with the screen reader and it says "Slide" before saying the slide name. For example "Slide Introduction Empty".
Is there a way to not let the screen reader to say "Slide"? If it needs to be said, is there a way to make it say something else? My course is in Swedish so maybe I could use the swedish word for "slide"?
I got this reply from Articulates support:
"When using screen readers such as NVDA, Storyline provides additional contextual information to help learners understand where they are within the course structure. Currently, the “Slide” announcement is built into Storyline’s accessibility behavior and cannot be customized or translated.
In the meantime, I’ve submitted a feature request to our product team on your behalf regarding additional control over what screen readers announce in Storyline."So I hope we can customize this behaviour in the near future 🙂

Hi!
Did you check Course settings -> Labels -> screen reader announcements ?
If I remember correctly there is a possibility to change "Slide" to other language (we did it for Polish). You can check what would happen if you left the slide space empty - If NVDA just keeps silent or says something like "empty".
If you check it please let me know :D- Fredrik_SCommunity Member
Hi Zuzanna!
Thank you for this. But your course is built in Rise - do you know if there are similar settings in Storyline 360? I think I have seen these settings there somewhere, but I can be mistaken 😊- ZuzannaWinickaTCommunity Member
Oh, I am so sorry! I have misread for some reason (too much info at the same time).
I checked our presentation with NVDA, and it seems to read slide in Polish (slajd).
I think that you might have seen the option in Player - Text label, because here in Custom text, there are some commands read by Screen readers (especially from position 142 onwards). But I couldn't find the "Slide" here specifically today (maybe I did not search well). Also, they tend to appear anew in English with every update.
According to the support article, this should be the place to change it, and we previously found some English words there and changed them to Polish.https://www.articulatesupport.com/article/Storyline-360-Customizing-the-Text-Labels?redirect=false
It would also be good to ensure that everywhere (also in NVDA) you have chosen Swedish.
However, I just found out that when we navigate to the slide navigation (arrows in the player) with tab, NVDA reads "slide navigation" in English and then the label (Wstecz, Dalej) in Polish. I am also not sure why, because I do not see this kind of announcement in Text Labels.
Could you tell me, if you have this slide navigation in Swedish or also English in your courses, if you use them at all, please?

Oh I also hope that the customisation possibility will be added! So maybe it reads in English for us too, but it is similar enough to Polish pronunciation :) Thanks!
