How NVDA announces text with layers
Hello. We are experiencing different ways in which NVDA announces text that is included on layers. Sometimes, the screen reader announces the text without using a down arrow key, and sometimes it does not. Lists are sometimes read as expected (list with 3 items) but the on screen text only has 2 dot points. Some layers the screen reader automatically announces text, others it does not. There does not appear to be any reason for this. Can you let us know how SL 360 is supposed to work in this instance with NVDA so we can know if there is anything we can do as designers about this. Thanks

Hi, Valerie.
Thank you for reaching out!
I wanted to share two articles that might help you identify how NVDA works with layers so you can adjust your design appropriately:
- How to Test Your E-Learning Course with a Screen Reader
- 4 Things to Know About Storyline 360 Courses and Screen Readers
If you need additional help, please share your .story file through a support case so we can take a look at your specific scenario.

Hi, after some testing, I found out that the settings of the layers need to have the "hide objects on base layer" unchecked, and the "prevent the user from clicking on other layers" and " pause timeline of base layer" checked. Now everything works. of course check the focus order as well.
Thank you.
Glad to hear things are working well on your end, Robi! Thanks for sharing your workaround in this thread. I'm sure others will find this useful!
Have a great start to 2023!
