How to disable "Hit Enter Key to Advance Slide "

We don't want students to advance to next one before they view the whole slide. So we hide the next button until the end of the slide.

But we noticed that at the beginning of the slide, you can skip it by hitting enter key.

This is something like a "backdoor" to complete a course without even viewing the content. Is this a designed feature or bug?

Please let me know how to solve this.

Thanks,

  • Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share some great news! We are no longer seeing this bug that prevented the enter key from functioning as expected when submitting answers on a freeform text entry field with an expanded height in Storyline.

Please make sure that you are using the current version of Storyline 360 (3.72.29699.0)This guide walks you through installing, updating, and opening Articulate 360 apps.

Please let us know if you're still encountering the issue and we'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you in a support case.

Attached is the revised version of your interactions (Scene 2). I replaced the "How Many Survey Question" interaction with single Numeric Entry Fields. This change makes it easy to reset the fields to a blank state, allowing users to re-enter their responses after an error message appears. The built-in interactions often cause unintended navigation to the next slide when the Enter key is pressed.

Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions about this solution.

I'm having the same issue, I want to prevent users from hitting the 'enter' key to progress to the next slide. Or at the very least control what slide it progresses to. I have downloaded the latest version but hitting 'enter' on the keyboard still advances the user to the next slide automatically.

      Hi TrainingBL!

      Happy to help with this!

We're no longer seeing the Storyline bug that was being discussed earlier in this thread.

      • Enter key not working as expected when submitting answers on a freeform Text Entry Slide.

Do you mind sharing more details on the specific type of Slide you are working with? If they are Text Entry - Quiz Slides, can you please confirm the field for 'Submit Keys' are blank on all slides?

Also, with the use of Triggers, the ENTER key can be configured to bring the learner to any Slide of your choosing.

If you're comfortable sharing the .story file you're working with, we'd be happy to take a closer look to see if something else is getting in the way. Feel free to upload a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

I'd also like to highlight that we recently shipped new updates for Storyline 360, since your last post.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
