Importing Glossary csv in Spanish - Storyline

I am trying to import a csv of a glossary in Spanish to Storyline 360.

The csv looks perfect (I've done this a lot for our courses in English.)

When I import it though, instead of the accented vowels and ñ's, I get garbage symbols. For example, the first term visible in the attached screenshot here should be "Arranque directo en línea".

The only way to fix them seems to be by individually editing each entry. This can be quite an onerous task since I can't use a search & replace in the Player.

Is there a setting I'm missing?

Anybody have a work-around?

Thanks,

Phoebe

  • Hi Phoebe,

I may be taking a stab in the dark, but I wonder if the issue is related to the font you are using in Excel or your other spreadsheet software. It may be that the font you were using in your spreadsheet software is not supported in Storyline?

Anyway, I tried importing a .csv file from MS Excel with Spanish words and symbols into Storyline's glossary and it worked. (see image) For reference, I was using Aptos Narrow, size 11 for my font and I simply saved the file as a CSV file within Excel.

Perhaps trying a different font before saving the spreadsheet as a .CSV file will make it import properly into Storyline.

  • Thank you for the suggestion, and I apologie for my delayed response.

I was using the same font as you.

What appears to have been the problem - & I still don't understand why - is that I was converting the xml directly to csv in the "convertcsv".

    This works for English.

For Spanish apparently, I have to convert xml to excel first and then save it as a csv. Then the symbols aren't corrupted when I import it to storyline.

As long as it continues to work, I don't need to understand the "Why", but it still seems illogical to me.

    Thanks again!
