Inheritance of alt text by states in Storyline
- 1 year ago
Hi RichardPrince - I just performed some testing, and I'm finding that NVDA is announcing alt text during the preview. Last year, we implemented a new setting allowing screen reader support to be disabled. Can you check that the option is checked/enabled for you?
Screen reader support during preview is now optional. Turn it on in the Storyline Options window
I'm going to revive this older solved thread to check and see if a feature request was put in to have object states inherit the alt text of the "normal" state for accessibility. I'm running into a similar issue with some check boxes and the selected state for those. Happy to submit the request if it's not already there, as I couldn't find it in the suggestions "forum".
Hi JasonDalrymple,
Thanks for adding your voice, and for describing your check box case. I understand that you’d like states like Selected to pick up the alt text from the Normal state, so you don’t have to enter it again for each one.
You’re not missing a setting, and this has come up before in the community. At the moment, states don’t inherit alt text from the Normal state, so each state needs its own alt text for a screen reader to read it. Editing the Normal state’s alt text also doesn’t update the others. I don’t have a timeline to share on state alt text inheritance.
Earlier in this thread, Richard shared a way to reduce the work for radio buttons. He set the alt text on just the Normal and Selected states before grouping the buttons. You may be able to use a similar approach with your check boxes, and it’s worth trying on one first. Let us know what you find.
