Is a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 okay to create elearning courses with Storyline 360?

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a computer today with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768.  The hardware specifications of Storyline 360 says the resolution needs to be
1,280 x 800 screen resolution or higher.  https://articulate.com/support/article/System-Requirements-for-Articulate-Storyline-360#hardware

What woulde be the potential issues with a resolution of 1366 x 768?  Should I return it and go get another computer?

  • I use a laptop with a 1366x768 screen. It isn't the greatest experience, but the UI fits. If you're like me, you will frequently be zooming in and out, and frequently minimizing the timeline. It's tight, especially in terms of vertical space, but it will work. IMO, unless you get a laptop with a Microsoft Surface-sized screen resolution, working with Storyline on a laptop will always be a bit tight.

  • My laptop screen goes to 1920x1080 but at about 12" everything is way too small, so I usually run at 1366x768. For larger projects I just turn on my external 24" monitor and go to full HD or higher. You might consider the same, as you can get a pretty large monitor for around $150 these days.

For my experience, you are not going to have many problems, I've worked for years with a laptop that supported that resolution. However, as Michael said, if you're serious with Storyline a large monitor (or better, a double monitor) and a docking station will be well worth the money.

  • If you have any embedded video elements the problems can become slightly more severe based on the availability of HD video.
