Is there a way to keep video player controls visible in videos on their own layer?

My project has some buttons that launch videos in their own layers. I inherited this design and wish I'd changed it to a branching scenario, as videos in layers create problems. But this is the situation.

Following one of the recent updates, the player controls in the videos changed. Now, they appear when the video starts but disappear after a few seconds and only reappear on hover. I'd like them to persist. Is there any way to manage that?

  • Hi James,

    Thanks for reaching out!

There's currently no option in Storyline 360 that prevents the video controls from disappearing on screen. This redesign is part of making the video controls more accessible to learners. I understand how having an option that controls the visibility of video controls can be preferable to some course designers.

I’ll be happy to pass your thoughts on to our product team, but you can also feel free to detail them more through a feature request!

  • Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply. It would be very nice to have persistent player controls available via a variable which one could set via a Trigger. In most cases, the (new) default behavior would be preferable. But, in others, having the flexibility to force the controls to remain on screen would be preferable.

So yes, please pass this idea along.

    Sincerely,

    James

  • Any update on this? We are considering alternate embedded players as a work around and this is not idea. Another urgent requirement is the ability to package descriptive audio mp4s in the same player like BrightCove so there is no need to create branching or another clunky fix.

      Hi Josh!

Unfortunately, I don't have an update to share yet! I've added your comments to our feature request, which will help our team determine the impact.

We'll keep you updated on the progress!
