Issue with Restricted Navigation + Resume Saved State + Replay Button
Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing some difficulties creating a course that combines restricted navigation with the ability to resume video playback from the exact point where the learner left off.
My course is structured as follows:
Scene 1
- Cover slide
- Agenda slide
- 3 slides containing a video and a "Save" button
- Closing slide
Scene 2
A slide that can only be reached by clicking the "Save" button on one of the video slides. This slide contains:
- A button to exit the course
- A button to return to the video slide the learner was watching
Expected learner experience
- The learner starts the course and navigates to the first video slide.
- The learner must watch the entire video before being allowed to continue to the next slide. Until the video is completed, the Next button is disabled.
Once the video has been watched completely, the learner can: - Replay the video using the player's Replay button
- Scrub through the video using the seekbar
- Move to the next slide
- Before completing the video, the learner cannot:
- Move forward or backward within the video
- Use the player's Replay button
- If the learner wants to stop watching and continue later, they can click the "Save" button. This takes them to the slide in Scene 2, which contains:
- A button with a trigger that exits the course
- A button with a trigger to return to the video slide the learner was watching, in the exact point he left off.
The problem
All three video slides are set to "Resume Saved State" so that learners can return to the exact point where they stopped watching.
I k’now there’s a conflict between this setting and the player's Replay button (https://www.articulatesupport.com/it/article/Storyline-360-Rewind-Button-Doesn-t-Start-the-Slide-Over). As a result, I can't achieve both requirements at the same time:
- Resume the video from the exact point where the learner left off
- Allow the learner to replay the video after completing it
Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there a workaround or another approach that would allow me to achieve this behavior?
I've attached a sample .story file that replicates the structure and behavior described above.
Any suggestions or best practices would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Sorry, you're right.
The revisiting the course trigger works correctly: it makes the video start from the correct point. The problem is that I want to keep these features:
- I need the learner to know how long the video is and to see his progress in the seekbar. But if I use the video player (instead of the slide one) the learner can navigate through the video before completing it.
- I need the learner to be able to move freely within the video (after completing it the first time) returning to any point they want, without being forced to restart the slide from the beginning.
So I’m wondering if there’s a way to remove just the “Replay” button from the seekbar (because by now it doesn’t work) or to make it works only after the user watch the entire video (for example, when the next button is unlocked).
It's important to keep the slide set to "Resume Saved State". - AndrewBlemings-Community Member
I think I follow. You describe what should happen, and you say there's a conflict, but you don't describe the conflict of what should happen but doesn't, or what shouldn't happen but does. Does revisiting the course not resume the video from the exact point where the learner left off?
I understand that the course player's restart button won't restart the slide, but if you need a way to allow the learner to replay the video after completing, how about adding a button on each video slide that flies in right at the end of the video, and if the learner clicks the button, it fires a trigger that "jumps to" the same slide you're on. The slide will start over from the beginning.
