JAWS add Graphic to every text in my course

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out because I'm experiencing significant frustration with how JAWS is interacting with my Articulate Storyline projects. Despite having a very neat and clear focus order, JAWS is reading out the word "graphic" and a bunch of other graphic elements that were never there to begin with.

Here’s a detailed description of the problems I'm facing:

  1. Neat Focus Order: I have meticulously arranged the focus order to ensure a smooth and logical navigation for screen reader users.
  2. Unexpected JAWS Behavior: When testing with JAWS, it unexpectedly announces "graphic" and references several graphics that do not exist in my project.
  3. Radio Buttons Issue: In the options sections, JAWS only reads "radio button" and completely ignores the alt text that I have written for each option.
  4. Consistent Issues: This isn't an isolated incident. I've consistently faced issues with JAWS and focus order in Storyline, despite following best practices.

I’m at my wit's end because these problems significantly impact the accessibility of my projects, and I'm unsure how to resolve them. Has anyone else encountered similar issues with JAWS adding unintended graphics or ignoring alt text for radio buttons? How did you address it?

I've attached a sample of my project if anyone is willing to take a closer look and provide feedback.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Best, Pablo Bailey

  • Check which version of Storyline you are using - the May 28 release had problems with screen readers reading out 'graphic' etc. Updating to the latest June 18 version solves this issue.

Regarding the radio buttons, you need to go into each state of the pictures and check the 'Object is visible to accessibility tools' box. I notice they were unchecked in your file.

  • Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community, Pablo! We're glad you're here. I'm glad that Kirsten is assisting you, and I agree that a Storyline update should resolve the issue with the text incorrectly announced.

Thank you for sharing the files. I looked at the Storyline project and confirmed it was last saved using the May 28, 2024 version (Build 3.88.32474.0). The behavior you see with the course was resolved by a hotfix released on June 6.

Let me know if you still have problems with the file after using the latest version. We'd be happy to investigate further.
