layer pops up before it hides

I have a 3 slide project, with a popup layer on the first and second slide. If I return to the first slide from the 2nd or 3rd slide, the layer pops up for a second before it disappears. I guess I'm putting the hide layer trigger in the wrong place. Advice? It's just a home button used to navigate back to slide 1.
