Multiple Closed Captions and Languages using simple Javascript
Brandon, as much as I wanted this to work, there's two issues we're running into attempting this.
1. The "making the audio layers the same length" aspect of this is still glitchy... i.e. we do this down to the exact fraction of a second length of the video layer and still the other CC layers blip in behind the parent layer from time to time.
2. This is not scalable for a company like our that has thousands of training modules- all video based, each with several languages to display.
If you have furthered your work on this project, I'd be extremely grateful for any additional thoughts you may have.
That aside, Articulate really needs to make this a built in feature.
And yet here we are.... I guess AI took the front seat.
It's true. We get a lot of "wait for it, wait for it!" for years with some pretty basic requests, but as soon as AI became a thing they had all the time in the world to develop, test, and deploy. -_-
The sad thing is that the only thing of all this AI baloney that I really use is the AI Quiz Creator. I get better at the rest of the features elsewhere. The image generator is good only for a laugh, but not much else. I gave up trying to get useful sounds, too.
The voice generation is somewhat useful, but I end up using external software and importing the audio and subtitles.I'd like to use the translation tool but something like 25.000$ per year for a limited subscription is out of the park in the bad way.
The mechanics for handling multiple languages is locked behind their paywall, so not even that do I get if I wanted to handle translations manually.So, Articulate Storyline is a pretty stale product these days when you remove the AI part. Sadly, if you hoped for improvements on the mountain of legacy features and functions that could use an upgrade, you will be disappointed—at least for the last five years.
Same, I use external resources for everything the AI tools claim to do with the one exception of auto-generating captions. It requires cleanup, but it does make things easier.
The idea of the translation tool is awesome, but I can't see how they're justifying the price tag, either, besides being an outright money grab. If they tacked on a moderate yearly fee on par with the AI tool, I could understand that, but we have much cheaper translation alternatives available that can handle all sorts of file types.
