Mute/remove audio from screen recording?
Hi, Anne!
Thanks for reaching out about this. While there isn't a built-in option to remove background noise from a screen recording, one idea can be to mute the recording's volume and re-record just the video. Here's how:
- Select the recording you need to edit, then go to the Options tab on the ribbon. From there, click on Video Volume and select Mute.
A few folks have mentioned they've used Audacity to remove the audio from their recording. Please see this discussion for more details and let me know if you need additional assistance!

Hi Kelly,
Thank you for your reply. In my case I want to remove the audio from the source files. I don’t include videos in the final course. I use the recordings as step-by-step slides.
However, I don’t want the audio recordings to be archived with the source file. My SME and I did not realize we were being recorded as we did captures and it is more of a privacy issue if someone else opens the Storyline source file. Does that make sense?
I looked at the link you provided, thanks for sending it. However, I don’t see any Videos in my media library. I am trying to get at the source files from the recording, shown in the attached image.
Thanks,

Hi Anne,
Thanks for the additional information. Since there isn't a way to remove the audio from the screen recordings, i'll let the community chime in on this one. There might be someone who has a solution they'd be willing to share that might work for you.

Hi Joe,
Thanks, however I don't think there is any way someone in the community would know how to select or edit them--they are part of the larger .story file. Although I can view these recordings from the Slides/Record Screen drop-down, there is no way to edit them.
I think this may have to be a question for someone internal to your engineering group.
Please note that I would like to strip the audio from the source recordings. The audio is not needed (I created step-by-step recordings), and I would prefer not to save this audio as part of the source file.
Thanks,
Anne
