Navigation buttons: Replacing text with arrows

Can I replaced the forward / backward text on the navigation button with centered big enough arrows? (< / >) I tried to simply delete the text - but then the remaining arrows are to small...

best regards

Birgit

  • Hello Birgit and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

The new Modern Player feature of Storyline 360 includes that consistent style for your navigation buttons across devices with the simplicity of arrows. Check out the documentation here.

What version of Storyline are you currently using and we'd be glad to help you out :)

Hi Leslie, I'm using Storyline 3. So Alyssa replied that I only have the Chance to use customized buttons on the slide. Is that right or is there another possibility?

  • Hi Birgit! Happy that you've joined the community!

When you're using the Classic player, you can remove the text labels, but there isn't a way to change the size of the arrows. You do have the option to remove those buttons completely and use custom buttons on the slide, if you'd like!

  • Hi Birgit,

Yes, that's correct. If you're using Storyline 3, I'd recommend building your own buttons.

This tutorial should help get you started on setting up those buttons and this tutorial will help you remove the built-in buttons from your player.

  • Is there a way to do the opposite in the Modern Player? If I want the arrows to still have Next and Prev text, is there a way to do that?

  • Absolutely, Christopher.

You can add the text to the buttons in the Modern Player:

Player > Colors & Effects > Button Styles > Navigation > Icon and Text

  • My problem is that I can't figure out the navigation path for the arrows. E.g. where does the forward arrow take you if there are multiple paths? Same for the back arrow. Can we control where the arrows take users? Thank you.

      Hi Stephen,

      Thanks for reaching out!

If there are multiple paths in your course, the next button will take you to the slide or scene that you have declared in your triggers. If you did not set a specific destination for your navigation path, then the buttons will default to the actions shown in this screenshot:

You can read more about triggers by checking out this article:

And here's a helpful article if you're interested in building custom navigation for your course:

      Hope this helps!
