Problem removing animation

On a layer, I had a shape with a fade animation that I didn't want. I removed the animation, but it persisted to play. I removed the shape and inserted a new one and Storyline gave it a fade animation. I deleted that and copied a known non-animated shape from another slide and storyline gave it a fade animation also. Anyone else experienced this?
