Put Storyline Interactions Into Rise!
We’re so excited about the latest new feature in Rise: Storyline blocks!
You can now have the best of both worlds: custom interactivity with Storyline 360 and easy web-based responsive authoring with Rise.
Create any custom interaction you imagine with Storyline 360, and then easily add it to the responsive projects you create in Rise. And of course, your interaction will work perfectly on any device!
To try it out, just make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of Storyline 360. Then watch this video by our CTO Arlyn Asch to see how easy it is to add Storyline interactions to your Rise courses.

Dear Crystal,
thank you for your answer and for taking a closer look at this topic.
Maybe we don't understand "autoplay" to mean the same thing.
In my experience a Storyline block, which is embedded in Rise, is not often designed to start immediately after loading, but waits for a user input. Therefore the first slide should be displayed on smartphones and tablets, just like in a browser on a PC/Mac .
I'll append two exemplary screenshots, one as it looks on the PC and one as it looks on the Smartphone (screenshots are from Rise Preview). I really don't understand what the difference is to get a different, semantically incorrect display on the smartphone.
Looking forward to further news!
Ernst Hi Ernst,
Thanks for including the screenshots. What you're seeing is expected behavior for Storyline Blocks. There isn't a way to remove the play button you see when viewing the course from a mobile phone.
Let me know if you have more questions about that!

As i want to insert small interactive parts in a Rise course by adding Storyline blocks, i would like them to blend in as perfect as possible. On desktop that works perfect. So adding a SL block with eg. size 1920 x 80, setting that to 'Full Width' works perfect on desktop. Alas the behaviour of that same block on mobile and tablet is not as wanted. It threats the SL block as video and starts it with the default play button. It aint video or audio, so i would like to have it treated as pure HTML5 what it is in fact. And it uses the mobile player..and fullscreen playmode. I do want to add my SL block completely blended in the Rise course...why else would i need a SL block ?
Reading the responses on other users questions i have to pinpoint that a developer wants to use Storyline blocks in Rise to add custom interactivities. So treating it as it was just some sort of video/audio container aint the best way, because of mobile requirements. Blending it perfectly into HTML5 in Rise would be the better way.
Kind regards,
Math
Hi Math,
Thanks so much for your feedback. What you're seeing is expected behavior for Storyline Blocks. There isn't a way to remove the play button you see when viewing the course from a mobile phone, but I'll let our team know that you need a seamless Storyline Block display in all devices.

To me, using the mobile player on iPados is a miss. Even when desktop site is triggered, the mobile player is not the nicest. Not only do you get the play button (which I can tolerate) but you get this weird box with a full screen button and black bars. Not the best UX choice.

I've read all these threads. It seems this issue with the storyline block on mobile has been around for two years and it hasn't been addressed. Even making it white to match the background of Rise would have been an improvement.

I'm actually a bit disappointed with how Articulate handles this topic. Also, I don't think it's the way videos are displayed on iOS as Articulate claims. On my iPhone I have a clean startup image of the video to play and a semi-transparent button (which is not needed for SL blocks). Actually it should be left to the desgners how their SL block gets started.

Adam, I must say that this is quite confusing: on mobile "play" button perplexes users if this is not a video content, because they expect video behind (even if textual instruction is given a few lines before - people sometimes are not too attentive), and it takes them a few moments to realize why suddelny you can click on stuff inside.
I appreciate that feedback, Irina. When learners view a course from a mobile device, they will see a play button over Storyline blocks. Tapping the play button will allow the Storyline content to display.
If this functionality changes in the future, we'll let you know!

Dear Alyssa, many thanks!
I know this is what happens but this is a problem! The affordance of the play button implies a video content -Lean back and watch! And many Storyline interactive module imply action! And the users are confused, they do not understand what happens next!. Please change this functionality, this is super confusing in terms of the user experience. Let "play" button appear on those Storyline blocks which have at least some video content but not pure free of it! - MathNotermans-9Community Member
I completely agree with Irina and Brad ( and dozens of other users) on this, as stated before.
Really inclined to create a poll for these kind of things...so it becomes more transparant to all of us how many times a request has been made... ( and how long ago that was )
I have Storyline blocks that only show a interactive table to work around limitations in Rise ( on mobile ) or a more customized drag and drop. None of those are video's. All just need to show...and then the user can act and click upon it. The default behaviour of the play button on Storyline blocks in Rise is not helpfull...users now have to click twice...to activate the SL block and act upon my interaction... Do make it load and show...no play button ! Leave the action in the Storyline block itself....

The current setup on mobile is a big problem for us. If we want to insert a Storyline interaction into Rise, or even just a single basic text slide for formatting reasons, the user sees what basically looks like a video box first. It's an extra click, which creates more friction for the user and makes the experience worse. I know this is intended, but it seems like a very poor choice for both the developer and the user.
